If complete doesn't pan out you can always go with Sky Restoration Project (SRP), which I prefer as it is more stable for me. Also, vanilla saves only work on the vanilla game, so no point in doing otherwise. This simply writes config file to _appdata_ with the defaults (and mods subsequently tweak this user.ltx file therein). So yeah, don't skip step #3 like the OP Thank You, but still confused?
